Kanban + ScrumMaster Training

Team Kanban Practitioner and Certified ScrumMaster Training

with Chet Hendrickson, Hugo Lourenco and Michigan Technology Services

Michigan Technology Services offers instructor-led Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) training, as well as other Agile and Scrum courses, through a partnership with the only Scrum Alliance authorized Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) based in Michigan, Chet Hendrickson. Chet is one of the founders of extreme programming (XP), the first signatory of the Agile Manifesto, and is a globally recognized Scrum Trainer.  Numerous Agile educators and coaches seek his guidance and have studied with him.  He’s authored multiple books on agility.   Taking a CSM workshop with Chet is unlike any other Agile course.

In a pre-Covid world our training would take place at our location in the Farmington Hills/Novi area, 20 miles outside of Detroit, or at your location anywhere around the world. Our Agile workshops and Agile coaching sessions are now offered online/virtually, reducing your need to travel.

Note that while many CST’s fly into metro Detroit to deliver a class, and then leave, we live here and support the local Agile community.   We continue to sponsor regional Agile conferences and local Agile and Scrum meetups. We have strong ties to Agile companies in the metro Detroit area.  We have successfully run this course for multiple teams in the Great Lakes area.

What is Team Kanban Practitioner and Certified ScrumMaster Training?

Modern work management is based on Lean ideas and techniques. To be successful we need to reduce waste and shorten lead times.

The two leading methods in use today, Kanban and Scrum, are implementations of these Lean ideas. However, they are often seen as competitors, instead of stablemates. Many have found that real success comes from knowing when to apply Scrum, when to apply Kanban, and when and how to blend the two.

This 20 hour workshop, spread out over five 4 hour days, is designed to show how and why to bring these ideas together. And, as an added bonus, attendees will be eligible for both Certified ScrumMaster certification from the Scrum Alliance and Team Kanban Practitioner certification from Lean/Kanban University. We will cover and discuss the CSM and TKP learning objectives.

The course will begin with the Lean Pillars, a set of self-sustaining ideas upon which a successful organization can be built.

Next, we will take a detour into Complexity Theory to help us understand the forces that cause us to choose either Kanban or Scrum.

Using those forces, we will see how Kanban and Scrum work. We will see common elements and the places they differ, and how we can use them together. We will see how to use Scrum’s Roles and Ceremonies to bring some organization to Kanban and how to use the metrics that drive Kanban to improve transparency when using Scrum.
